Yiulian Dockyards(Shekou) Limited is moving to a new location on Mazhou Island in the Pearl River delta, to accommodate higher levels of demand for its ship repair services. It is expected that the new facility, which will occupy an area of 700,000m2 in total, will be on production in the middle of 2007. Capacity will be significantly increased by the investment being made in the new facilities by china Merchants Group. This includes two new VLCC dry docks, measuring 400m×83m and 360m×67m as well as ship repair quays of 3010m in length overall. In addition, the yard’s two existing floating docks, which measure 250m×36m and 200m×32m, and which can handle vessels of 80,000dwt and 40,000dwt respectively will be towed to the new location as well; it will be the largest ship repair yard in China by that time. |
